Burns and first aid
The
first thing to do in case of burns is to cool off the harmful spot
or area and use a sterile bandage to cover it. Beware and do not
use any medicine because it may cause an infection. Burns may
occur very often.
How to sooth a burn: First of
all, remove the patient from the dangerous place. Then, keep the
harmful spot or wound under cold water, for 5-10 minutes. If there
are any sterile bandages, use them! You can also use clean towels
or bed-sheets. Make an improvised bandage and take the patient to
the closest hospital.
Hot liquids harm a large
surface but they are rather superficial. Maintain the burn clean.
If the area/spot is immediately cooled off, the patient can be
safely taken to see a doctor.
Types of burns: -
at the surface of the skin (called epidermic) and the deeper layer
(dermic) there is a basic membrane. When the burn does not harm
it, there are no scars left. Specialists call those burns 1st
degree-burns. They heal after 3-4 days. The skin stays darker for
a few more days. Intermediary burns, also called 2nd
degree-burns, get healed in 10 days. Rub them with hydrating
moisturizer and cover them with bandages. Serious burns, called
3rd and 4th degree-burns produce scars.
