Sorrel root

Sorrel root (Rumex acetosa)
reaches one metre in height and has long-shaped leaves. The stems taste sour, but pleasant and refreshing. It is frequently used to spice food. The root tastes sour-sweet and it is used in quack medicine for healing skin diseases. It also cures liver disorders, such as infectious hepatitis - A, B, C-type and all sorts of intoxications. 

How to find it:
It grows in the fields and meadows. The root can be harvested in October, after the stem and leaves have dried out. Wash the roots well, cut them into four and store them in cool dry place. When the roots lose their resilience, use them for producing all sorts of mixtures. 

Prescription

Powder

It is the best way to use it. Grind the roots and take 1 spoon/4 times a day. Take it on empty stomach, keep it underneath the tongue for 10-15 minutes and swallow it with water. 
A small secret: combine it with artichoke, centaury, gentian and wormwood for healing liver disorders. 

Decoction 
Soak 2 teaspoons of ground plant into half cup of water (over night) and filter it; boil any remains of the plant into another half cup of water for 1-2 minutes and let to cool off; combine the two mixtures and take it into 2-3 helpings/day.

Use it to heal:
- infectious hepatitis (A, B, and C): mix it with artichoke (Cinara scolymus), Silbyum marianum and hardhay (Hypericum perforatum), in equal quantities. Take a teaspoon four times/day, on empty stomach,. After several weeks the results become obvious. It increases appetite and resistance to effort. The skin regains its normal colour and psychical features are improved. A cure should last for 3 months. 
- recovering after liver disorder, caused by stress: mix powder with artichoke, in equal quantities; take it 3 times/day, before main meals. The cure should last for at least 2 weeks or 2-3 months, in case of serious disease.
- auxiliary for curing malignant or benign tumours: take an teaspoon/ 4 times a day. It contains certain substances which improve immunity and absorbs tumours. It is also a mild digestion-stimulating substance, it improves physical and psychical energy and is perfect for healing cancer. Age spots are caused by internal lack of balance: drink 2-3 cups of decoction/day, on empty stomach. It helps to liver dis intoxication. A cure should last for at least a month. Also add a teaspoon of Viola tricolor into a cup of decoction.
- acne: mix 4 teaspoons of powder with another four of honey. Drink it during the day, on empty stomach. The cure lasts for at least 2 months. 

Dwarf elder root (Sambucus ebulus)

Dwarf elder
root is related to elder, but it is a wild herb. Their leaves, flowers and fruits are similar, but it is smaller and less resisting. The leaves smell badly, but they are perfect healing plants. It prevents exaggerated appetite. It is perfect for dis intoxicating the body and helps to any diet.

How to find it:
It grows at the mountains, on river beds and near forest skirts. The root is very strong and it must be harvested at the end of October. Wash it well and slice it. Let it dry out, into thin layers into fresh place.

Prescription

Brandy soak

- use only small dose, because it is very strong; soak 100 gr of fresh root into a litre of strong brandy and let it soak for 5 days. Then, filter it and keep it into dark-coloured bottles. Take several spoons on empty stomach, in case of diets, and 2 hours before dinner, for it is a perfect purgative substance.

Cold soak
- 2 teaspoons of ground root mixed with 200 of water; let it soak over night and filter it. Drink it on empty stomach: 1 or 2 glasses a day.

It cures:
- constipation: brandy soak is a perfect laxative and purgative drink. Take 1-2 spoons of soak/day, three times/day, on empty stomach. The cure lasts for 2 weeks; take a week-break then, repeat it again.
- fatness, gaining weight, exaggerated appetite: it has eliminating properties, it is a diuretic and purgative substance which fastens weight-loss. It tastes bad and though it prevents exaggerated appetite. Take a spoon of soak, a few minutes before eating. Be careful because it is very strong! In case of overdose, you might lose weight too fast and suffer from stomach disorders.
- hypo acid gastritis, slow digestion: take a teaspoon of powder, 20-30 minutes before main meals. It regulates and stimulates digestion.
- cystitis and urinary disorders, acites: drink one glass of soak/4 times a day. In case you suffer from water retention, take powder: a teaspoon, 3-4 times/day.

Caution!
Dwarf elder is a purgative herb which may cause side effects: dehydration, abdominal colic and irritation of the digestive tract. Do not over exceed the dose and keep out of children's reach!

It is not recommended in case of internal use: do not take it in case you suffer from diarrhoea, irritable colon, hyper acid gastritis, vomiting or poor metabolism.
