Sorrel root

Sorrel (Rumes acetosa) grows up rather high (it reaches one metre in height), has long shaped leaves (arrow-like). The upper part tastes sour and refreshing. It could be used for spicing up your food. The root tastes bitter-sweet. It was used in quack medicine for curing skin diseases. Nowadays, it is used for curing liver diseases, especially infectious hepatitis (A,B,C) and all kind of intoxications.
Sorrel grows on meadows and hay fields, in the fields and in the mountains (up to 2,000 m altitude). You can use the root, the stem and the leaves. Wash roots with cold water, split them into four pieces and let them dry out in dry fresh place. They are completely dried out when we can break them by hand.

Powder
- it is the most effective and fast way to use them. Smash sorrel roots and then, grind them with the coffee mill. Take 1 teaspoon of powder four times/day. Take it on empty stomach, keep it underneath your tongue for 10-15 minutes then, swallow it with water.
A small secret: it is very effective when combined with artichoke, century, gentian and wormwood, for curing liver disorders or intoxication.

Decoction
Soak 2 teaspoons of smashed sorrel into half cup of water, over night then, filter it; separate the soak from the rest of the plant, boil it for 1-2 minutes into another half cup of water, let it cool and combine the two mixtures. Drink it 2-3 times a day.

It is perfect for curing:
- A, B, and C infectious hepatitis: mixture of sorrel powder, artichoke herb (Cinara scolymus), Silbyum marianum seeds and hardhay (Hypericum perforatum), in equal quantities. Take it on empty stomach, four times a day, for several weeks. It improves appetite and resistance when making effort. It also regenerates skin (colour), psychical activity, etc.
- it is meant for recovering after surgery or liver disorders - mix powder with artichoke powder and take it three times/day, before main meals. The cure should last for at least 2 weeks in case of side effects, and 2-3 month in case of serious problems.
- auxiliary in case of cancer - prepare powder from a sorrel root and take it 4 times/day. It contains certain substances which are perfect for stimulating immunity and eliminating tumours. It also stimulates digestion (a mild stimulant) and helps maintaining both physical and psychical energy.
- skin spots - drink daily, 2-3 cups of decoction, on empty stomach. It is a famous remedy in Romanian quack medicine. It helps eliminating toxins, which is good for liver. A cure should last for a whole month. It is even more effective if you add a teaspoon of Viola tricolor into a cup of decoction.
- against acnea - four teaspoons of sorrel root powder, combined with four teaspoons of honey. Take it over one day, on empty stomach. The cure should last for at least two months.

Dwarf elder root

Dwarf elder root (Sambucus ebulus) is a type of wild elder. Their flowers and fruits look almost alike. It grows less higher than the elder. The leaves and stems smell disgusting, but they are very effective in a therapy. It is recommended for diets.
It grows both at the field and at the mountains, on river banks and forest limits. The root is deep and strong. After digging it out, wash the roots, cut them into small pieces and let them dry out in thin layers, in very fresh place.
Cure:
- soak with brandy: 100 g of perfectly smashed fresh roots, put them into strong brandy and let them soak for 5 days. After it soaks, filter and keep it in dark coloured bottles. Take 1-3 teaspoons, on empty stomach, before eating; in case of diets and 2 hours before eating, for it is a perfect purgative.
- uncooked soak - put two teaspoons of smashed sorrel root and let it soak into 200 ml of water, over night. Filter it in the morning. Drink it on empty stomach, 1-2 glasses a day.

It is recommended for curing:
- constipation: soaked root (prepared into brandy) is one of the strongest laxative and purgative plants. Take 1-2 teaspoons of soak, 2-3 times/day, on empty stomach. A cure should usually last for 2 weeks; then, make a one week-break and repeat it again.
- fatness, appetite: dwarf elder is a real amazing plant. It helps eliminating toxins, helps digestion and losing weight. It smells rather bad and therefore, it should be taken before eating. Take a teaspoon of soak (prepared into brandy) a few minutes before meals. Beware because it is very strong and it might have side effects: sudden loss of weight and stomach pains.
- slow digestion and hypo-acid gastritis - one teaspoon of powder, 20-30 minutes before main meals. It stimulates and regulates digestion.
- cystitis and kidney disorders - take half glass of soak, four times a day. In case you are not allowed to consume additional liquids, sorrel root should be taken as powder - a teaspoon, 3-4 times a day.

Caution
Sorrel roots are very purgative and they may produce side effects, such as dehydration, abdominal colic, or digestion disorders. Therefore, it is extremely important to avoid over exceeding special doses. Keep out of children's reach!

Inadvisable
For internal use: people suffering from diarrhoea, colon disorders, hyper acid gastritis, or vomiting, must not take it.
